NX2Apple: the no-terminal Mac app for nxnative

NX2Apple is a free Mac app that does the nxnative build for you: pick your own game files, choose This Mac or iPhone / iPad, and press build. No terminal, no Homebrew. It is a separate community project that follows nxnative; this page explains what it does, what you need and where its limits are.

What NX2Apple is

NX2Apple is an open-source (MIT) fork of nxnative. nxnative does the real work: it rewrites the game’s program for the Apple chip, supplies a small Switch system layer and rebuilds the graphics on Metal. NX2Apple adds a macOS launcher on top: a setup wizard, a build page with real progress, and a library of finished games that you start with Play, like a Switch home menu.

It is not an emulator and it ships no games. You still bring your own game dumps and your own prod.keys; this guide does not explain how to obtain them.

What you need

  • An Apple silicon Mac. The launcher opens on macOS 13 or later, but building most games needs Xcode 27.1, which needs macOS 26.6 or later.
  • Xcode with the iOS SDK. The app carries its own Python and build tools; the .NET SDK is the one tool it installs for you.
  • Your own game files (NSP or XCI) and your own prod.keys.
  • For iPhone or iPad: iOS 26 or later on a recent device. The same device limits as nxnative apply, see requirements.

Install and first build

  1. Download NS-Port-Builder-macOS-arm64.zip from the NX2Apple releases page and unzip it.
  2. Open it once with right-click → Open. The app is unsigned, so macOS asks before the first start.
  3. Follow the setup. A Download repository button fetches the project it builds with into ~/NX2Apple, and a dependency page checks Xcode and the other tools.
  4. Build a game. Pick the game folder (or base game, update, DLC and keys one by one), choose This Mac or iPhone / iPad, and press build. A stopped build continues where it left off.
  5. Play. A Mac build appears in the library. An iPhone build ends with the steps to sideload the app; see how to use nxnative for sideloading tools.

Playing on Mac and iPhone

  • Mac: per-game launch options set frame rate, docked or handheld mode, render scale, upscaling and game language; they survive rebuilds. A controller drives both the launcher and the games, and a console mode turns the library full screen.
  • iPhone: the same settings appear before the game starts. Touch controls come in 2D and 3D layouts; an Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro or MFi controller replaces them. See controllers and settings.
  • Saves: Mac and iPhone saves can sync through one iCloud Drive folder.
  • First-time stutter when a new scene appears is normal: shaders compile once and are remembered.

Limits to know

  • Only games with an nxnative profile work. Others need bring-up work of their own.
  • Big games hit the iPhone memory limit unless the app keeps the Increased Memory Limit entitlement. The project says AltStore Classic 2.2+, Impactor and Xcode with a Personal Team keep it, while Sideloadly drops it.
  • Neither the launcher nor the iPhone apps are signed for you; you sideload them.
  • The app you build contains your game. Keep it for your own device and never share it.

Other Mac apps for nxnative

The nxnative README lists several community Mac apps. All are separate projects with their own pages:

  • NX2Apple: guided setup, library, iCloud saves, console mode.
  • NX Play: builds, plays, installs and manages games on the Mac and on iPhone/iPad.
  • NxNative Launcher: iCloud cross-saves, adjustable FPS and render scale, control mapper, DLC and mod support, multi-language UI.
  • LumaNX: a macOS GUI that builds for Mac and exports iPhone/iPad IPAs, with a Chinese interface.

NX2Apple questions

What is NX2Apple?

NX2Apple is a free, open-source macOS app (MIT) that builds your own Switch games into apps for iPhone, iPad or Mac without the command line. It is a community fork of nxnative that adds a launcher and a small set of patches.

Is NX2Apple an emulator?

No. Like nxnative, the game’s own code runs natively on the Apple chip and its graphics are drawn with Metal. NX2Apple only automates the build and keeps your games in a library.

Is NX2Apple the same as nxnative?

No. nxnative (seedds/nxnative) is the engine and command-line build script. NX2Apple (LNPANDY/NX2Apple) is a separate project that follows nxnative every day and adds a Mac app on top. Bugs in the app go to the NX2Apple issue tracker.

Where do I download NX2Apple?

Only from its GitHub releases page: the file is NS-Port-Builder-macOS-arm64.zip. It contains the builder app, never any games or keys.

Does NX2Apple work on an Intel Mac or on Windows?

No. It needs an Apple silicon Mac. There is no Windows version.

Why does macOS block NX2Apple the first time?

The app is not signed with a paid Apple developer certificate. Right-click it and choose Open once; after that it opens normally.

Which games work with NX2Apple?

The same games that have an nxnative profile. See the games list; titles without a profile are not supported.
